Identity, Purpose and Destiny

Who am I?
What on earth am I here for?
Where am I going in life?
Is there life after death?

These are important life transforming questions because they are questions about identity, (the fact being who or what a person or a thing is, the characteristics of a person or a thing)
purpose ( original intent - the reason for which something is done or created or the reason for which something exist)
destiny (Destiny - the events that will necessarily happen to a person or thing in the future)
eternity (is a destination: theology: endless time)

We all need to be certain of these four things in our lives because the bible says in Proverbs 29: 18 (NKJV) "Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; But happy is he who keeps the law."

Knowing who you are: your strengths and weaknesses , will help you discover you purpose and then you can make informed choices that will influence your destiny. You can't start with your self Because you were custom made by God to fulfil a purpose. Jesus said io his disciples " without me you cannot do anything!

The need for a holistic and new approach to christian ministry and education, as well as concerns for the spiritual, emotional, social and financial well being of individuals, families and society as a whole led to the formation of Joy Christian Centre in 2004. In the last 12 years JCC has been taking dynamic steps toward the realisation of our God-given vision.

As the founder and Senior Pastor of Joy Christian Centre (JCC), Rev. William Eli Sunu is a gifted communicator and Bible teacher. His passion is to bring people to Jesus and challenge believers to live a deeper, meaningful Christian lifestyle.  Born and raised in Ghana, he dedicated his life to Jesus in 1986 at Grace Outreach Church and a year after relocating to the UK, was called into Christian ministry in 1992.Graduating from the Centre for International Christian Ministry (C.I.C.M.) in 1992, William has served as an associate Pastor in two independent churches.

He married Agnes in 1997 and they planted their first church in Bermondsey, London in 1998. After four years leading their church, William and Agnes moved their family to Basildon, Essex where they planted Joy Christian Centre in January 2004, starting with 10 adults and 3 children.

At JCC we believe that the Christian Church should be modeled after the life and teachings of Jesus Christ who is the AUTHOR and FINISHER of our faith, Hebrews 12:2.

These models are best revealed in the Great commandment: “ Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind….. Love your neighbour as yourself. All the law and the prophets hang on these two commandments”. Matthew 22:37-40.

And the great commission: “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the
Holy Spirit and teaching to obey everything I have commanded you”. Matthew 28:19-20.

In these two statements we find the purposes of the New Testament church namely: Worship, Ministry, Evangelism, Fellowship and Discipleship.

It is therefore our purpose to bring people to Jesus Christ and membership in his family, disciple them to Christ-like maturity, equip them for a purposeful ministry in the church and their life’s mission in the world in order to glorify God.

This is why we believe there is something for everyone and someone for you!

It is our vision to establish a vibrant, multicultural congregation in Basildon that will exalt Christ by bringing God’s good news to the unsaved and broken-hearted.

To welcome 18,000 people to our church through absolute commitment to outreach combined with a passionate desire to establish a church-family to which people want to belong.

We dream of a place where the broken-hearted, frustrated, the hurting and the rejected will find love, acceptance, encouragement, help, hope, forgiveness, healing, deliverance, joy and peace.

We aim to impact our communities through the practical expression of Christ’s Love in our every day walk. We will seek for the spiritual, emotional, financial and social well being of every member by teaching and preaching God’s truth clearly and often as well as providing the necessary training, care and support for all to reach full maturity in Christ Jesus.

It is a dream of equipping every believer for a purposeful ministry by helping them discover their God given gifts and talents for short and long term missions around the world.

To acquire a 25 acre site to build a simple, state-of-the-art church facility that will house at least a three thousand seat auditorium, a nursery, counseling and training centres as well as offices and a good-size car park and play area.Something for everyone, someone for you!

We accept the revelation of the triune God given in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments and confess the historic faith of the Gospel therein set forth. We here assert doctrines that we regard as crucial to the understanding of the faith, and which should issue in mutual love, practical Christian Service and evangelistic concern.

The sovereignty and grace of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit in creation, providence, revelation, redemption and final judgment.

The divine inspiration of the Holy Scripture and its consequent entire trustworthiness and supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct. The universal sinfulness and guilt of fallen man, making him subject to God’s wrath and condemnation.

The substitutionary sacrifice of the incarnate Son of God as the sole and all-sufficient ground of redemption from guilt and power of sin, and from its eternal consequences.

The justification of the sinner solely by the grace of God through faith in Christ crucified and risen from the dead.

The illuminating, regenerating, indwelling and sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit.

The priesthood of all believers, who form the universal Church, the body of which Christ is the head and which is committed His command to the proclamation of the Gospel throughout the world.

The expectation of the personal, visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ in power and glory.
